Wheelchair Curling

Wheel chair Curling

For this task we had to make up our own sport that can be played at the Paralympics but remembering there were people that were blind  and deaf.  I thought Wheel Chair Curling was the best options because the people in the team that are deaf can tell the people that are blind where they are going so they can get the rock into the right place that they need to.  But there is a twist they all have to bee in wheelchair and they have to try and measure the length it went.

Rules
You are not allowed to start before the rock is even started to go to the right place.
You have to have 2 hands on the broom not one.

  1. Hi Mia,

You have done a wonderful job with this activity. It is not easy to think of a sport that will work for people with a range of physical challenges and, yet, you have come up with an option. Way to go!

I think that you have also carefully considered the rules and chosen two very important options, particularly when it comes to safety. The ice can be very slippery and it's important that the athletes use two hands on their brooms and do not start until the rock is in place. I have actually had some personal experience with curling. It's quite a popular sport in Canada (where I'm from). When I was in primary school our teacher used to take us to the local arena to teach us how to skate and how to curl. I loved curling (although I did fall down a number of times - Ouch!)

Keep up the great work, Mia. I really love reading your posts!

    Cheers, Rachel :)
