In writing we had a look at two word sentences, two word sentences are simple sentences. Using the simple sentence we added in FANBOYS which makes it a complex sentence which joins two simple sentences or ideas together with a connective. Using the complex sentence we used AAWWUIBBIS to make it a compound sentence.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Ms Kirkpatrick.

Idiom
We looked at a language feature called "Idiom". This language feature means to, a sentence that can have different meaning to it using exaggeration so it's similar to a hyperbole. In this DLO I put a few examples and illustrated one which was "Speed up the clock". I have put in pictures to suit the idiom sentence. I found this quite easy because I am aware of how to use idiom in a sentence.

Hyperbole Illustration
Our writing focus today was hyperbole's. If you don't know what that is it is extreme exaggeration used in a sentence. I have illustrated one of my hyperbole's which was "Halfway through to my destination, a big bug was on the path it was as big as the moon or even the world" this related to my short story that I made which was about an unfortunate walk. I think this was a bit easy because it wasn't hard making the hyperbole but it kind of was hard when you had to add it in your story because it had to fit in with the setting of the story.

Haiku Poem
This is my Haiku Poem. This consists of 5 syllables in the first line, the second line with 7 syllables and the last line with 5 syllables. So altogether it has 17 syllables and 3 lines. I had to retell the story of How Maui brought fire to the world. I think this was hard to suit the 5-7-5 layout.

Metaphor
Today in writing we revised on the language feature metaphors. If you don't know what a metaphor is it is basically a simile but without the like or as meaning that you can compare something to another something without using those words. I thought this was kind of tricky but I think I got it in the end. I have illustrated a metaphor example.

Sentence Structure
This game helped me identify a simple, compound and complex sentence. I thought this was easy and hard but luckily I knew the conjunctions such as FANBOYS and AAAWWUBBIS. I now have a clear idea on what simple, compound and complex sentences are and I can use this in my writing stories.

In writing I had to make another DLO based on Similes. I had a very clear idea on Similes because I already knew what it is and how to use it. I have also added in images to give examples.

Simile language features
In this challenge we had to Illustrate one of the similes in our activities. We had to look back at what a simile is. This gave me a clear idea what it is and where to use it. My understanding of this is that as simile is a sentence that is compared to something using is or like.

5 minutes of Camp
Flying High
As my tummy was rumbling , I could hear my heart racing. It was time to fly up in the sky. I just wanted to get this over and done with. Thoughts racing through my mind I didn’t know what to do.
“ Flyer are you ready? “ instructor shouted.
“ Mia flying! “ I replied . Off I went, I went flying up high , high up in the sky. Whoosh! Feeling the cold breeze from the wind when I was swinging from side to side. Trees, fences, grass I could see everything from this point of view.
Now it was time to go down, I could feel the sweat rushing down my face , Click! Click! As I was cracking knuckles. Slowly like a tortoise I went down. It wasn’t as shocking as I thought it was going to be.
Screaming inside, I now accomplished my goal of not being terrified of heights . Was it true? Was I dreaming?
After our camp trip we wrote a recount of our favourite camp activity. This writing was 5 minutes of camp which meant that you had to write a 5 minute recount about your favorite activity in camp. We wrote My favourite camp activity was probably the Flying Kiwi, I found this fun because I have never tried this before and it would be fun experiencing something else. I used the structure " T.R.E.E" which is Title, Reveal , Events and Ending.

Our writing focus today was to look at Comparative and Superlative. This was kind of hard considering some of the questions were trick. Like for an example it was bad, worse and worst this was tricky because everyone thought that it was different but it wasn't. To show some examples I used smashed window as a result of Bad , Worse and Worst.

Head Girl Speech
Head Girl Speech
My name is Mia and I have been nominated for Head Girl.
I am a perfect choice for Head Leader because I have skills that suit the position.
First I am confident, which means I will be able to make the school proud when representing in outside activities. I can take on this position with responsibility and with all the hard work and determination needed. For example I have completed majority of my work which leads to the fact that I have over 300 blog posts.
I also lead by example which works well for the school. Furthermore is that I can motivate others when they need my help, isn’t this a skill a leader needs?
I will strive to represent the school the best way possible and become the role model of our younger students I participate in all activities and encourage others to try their best, and never let anyone feel discouraged.
I also show great leadership by helping others if they are stuck on a task as well as my social interactive skills. I work well with others which makes me collaborative with my classmates and shows that I can work as a team which would be helpful since we are going camp next year.
This concludes to my speech. To be able to call myself the Head Girl of Panmure Bridge School for 2017 would be a honour and privilege, this position is made for me and I will be able to prove this if I am the Head Girl for next year! Thank you.
This is my speech for my student leader nominee for head girl. When presenting this I was really nervous because I had to speak in front of the year 8's and my fellow yr 7 classmates.

Speech Marks
Our focus in writing today was to understand how to use and punctuate dialogue. Followed by creating a DLO that helps others learn exciting ways of using dialogue in writing. I worked with Nesi. We had to add examples followed by clip art images , 8 synonyms with the word said and explain how to use it. I found a video that can help others use speech marks correctly. I enjoyed working collaboratively with Nesi because we came up with some really good ideas.

5 minutes of ...
For the past week we have been re-looking at recounts. To show our understanding we wrote a recount using personification, similes and e.t.c. But there was a twist we had to write each sentence each but with a partner. I thought this would be hard because we wouldn't be thinking about the same idea we would have different parts in the story. But I think it turned out pretty good considering we wrote different ideas and we planned it out using T.R.E.E ( Title, reveal, events and ending) . Using this picture prompt we had to come up with a story before the rescue mission is happened or after this happened.

Hyperbole
For our writing lesson we have been learning about Hyperbole. A Hyperbole is a statement that is used for exaggeration or it's really dramatic. I have written examples to give you a clear idea of what it is. I also used an image to give another clear idea of this.

Re-looking at recounts
Today in writing we went back to recounts even though we know the meaning and the concepts of it. We took a test to show our understanding of the language features. I got 9/10 but I got which of these would you expect to find the beginning of a recount. We then had to look at the manaiakalani cluster and try to find good recounts that we can use as examples. We were aiming for year 7/8 students because we are on about the same level as them. I found a one this person used time connectives and past tense which was good for a recount. ( http://pesalishak.blogspot.co.nz/2015/09/market-day.html) I thought this was fun because I got to learn from others and they could learn from me.

Picture Prompt
Yesterday we made a DLO based on sentence starters. I made 3 stories about a picture prompt. So our first sentence had to start with once upon a time and you had to introduce that character. Next you had to talk about where the character lived. The third sentence is supposed to be about his or her's power or special ability. Fourth sentence had to be about the problem fifth had to be about her feelings and emotions that is happening. The next sentence is supposed to be about how she or he's solution to the problem. The trick to make it a bit long was to add comma's and complex sentences. I really enjoyed this activity this really helped me with my story starters.

Magic Box Poem
This is my Magic Box version of Kin Nisbett's original Magic Box poem. We all had to make our own version using descriptive language. We had to paint a picture in the person's mind by using adjectives, verbs and more. Our focus for this term is Poetry Anthology. I thought this was really fun to do and I can't wait to do it again.

Hoverbike advertisement
In writing our main focus is advertising. In this task we had to make our own advertisement showcasing a hover -bike. For this task I worked with Nesi we were trying to make this stand out but we wanted the colours to be easy to read. We tried to aim for kids and teenagers because they will be more interested in the product other than adults who won't be interested. If this advertisement was real I would want to buy this because it is good layout and has words that will hook you in.
