Training

For the past two weeks we have been learning about the training skills of Olympic athletes.  We learnt how  athletes train and how much hours they train a day.  We also got to learn how to check our pulse I thought that we were supposed to feel our chest for our pulse but it was actually our wrist and our neck to find it you have to feel it kind of vibrating. We then had to find sports that involve Agility, Strength and Endurance.  For Agility I wrote soccer or also known as football. I put down weightlifting for Strength because you have to be really strong to carry heavy weight. Last but not least I put cycling for Endurance since it is a long sport it will depend on your stamina.  I enjoyed this rotation I can't wait to learn about hauora.

High Jump

Yesterday we had our Run, Jump, Throw lesson. We got to learn the skills of high jump. I knew most of the skills because I haven't done it in a very long time. Our first skill is to have slightly bent knees, arms follow through. toes up, straight slightly.   So first we got to learn the formation of it and the arms. So the formation was right , right , left , left. This meant that our legs go right then our right arm goes up then it follows through.  I think I enjoyed this more than running and long jump because I have had more experience in this sport.

Magic Box Poem

This is my Magic Box version of Kin Nisbett's original Magic Box poem. We all had to make our own version using descriptive language. We had to paint a picture in the person's mind by using adjectives, verbs and more. Our focus for this term is Poetry Anthology.  I thought this was really fun to do and I can't wait to do it again.

Warriors

Today we got to meet two players( Ryan Hoffman and John Palavi)  that currently represent the Warriors. We learnt about a lot about Health and our well being, Hydration, belonging, sleep and some fun little quizzes with a catch if we got the question correct we would get a prize.  The one I really enjoyed talking about was sleep because I love sleeping. They gave us a review on what time they go to bed and some tips to get more energy. They also told us that they sleep a bit later because a adult has to have at least 8 hours of rest and a kid has to have an average amount of 9-11 hours of sleep. So we were split up to two teams then each team , if they wanted to answer they had to say there team chant. Since I was in John's team we had to shout J.P if you were in Ryan's team you had to shout Hoffie. The main highlight for me was when we had 30 seconds of each team yelling out their team chant. My team won which was amazing. I got a prize for reading out the passage with a loud voice it was hard because there were a lot of people shouting. I would like to say thank you to Georgia for hosting this amazing event , Alice for organizing  this amazing event and DTR for making this possible.

Run, Jump, Throw

Yesterday in our session of Run, Jump, Throw our main focus was long jump. Andi gave us tips on how to properly land and techniques we can use to get us more further.  When landing we sort of had to land in a squat position but we renamed a motorcycle position. In our starting positions we had to run our hardest and use our arms to help us land safety. I landed quite far using these techniques. Thank you Andi for the amazing lesson I can't wait to use this for athletics.

Netball inter-school

Yesterday I got to participate in the netball inter-school.  There were 2 teams I played in the Avengers. We first versed Ruapotaka we sadly lost but that didn't stop us from going. We then competed against Tamaki Primary we sadly lost our last game was against Glenn Innes we then successfully won our game. Which made us go into the quarter finals. We challenged Stone fields we won our game. Our next game was Point England we won our game which qualified us to challenge our other school team Revolution.  We lost but I really thought that it was a fun and fair game. I would like to say thank you to Miss Niacker, Mr Olgilvie, MIss Emma and the Otahuhu collage girls that came over to help us.

Ancient and Modern Olympics

For the past 2 weeks I have been learning about Ancient and Modern Olympics. I learnt the history about the ancient and the similarities of both modern and ancient Olympics.  I think my favorite activity was when we had to  write 5 facts about both of the topics. I did not know that  women were not allowed to compete in the Olympics nor watch the Olympics. In the ancient Olympics you had to be a Man of Greek Origin and free born. I thought this was really sad because girls can do things boys can do. I also learnt about the Modern Olympics I learnt that they spend around the same money each year which is about 450 million dollars for each country and more. I t=can't wait to learn more about the Olympics since it is our topic for this term.

Provocation

This week we have been learning to consider both side of a provocation so that we can make an informed opinion.  Our question we had to make an opinion on was " Should host countries spend so much money on building the Olympic venues? ". Well being honest I thought that you didn't have to spend tons of money just on multiple Olympic venues because this money can be used for better things like hospitals, homeless and many more. See if the Olympic's are over what are they going to do with it.  To prove my point I added evidence to my blog with images and attributed it.  I also added in other peoples opinion because I have just realized that everyone has a opinion you don't always have the same.

New Zealand Logo

This term our topic is based on the Olympics. Based on this task we had to make an Olympic Logo based on our country ( New Zealand)  . We had to make a logo if our country was hosting the Olympics.  I thought that this logo suited it the best  because the colour black represents the colour on the Maori flag.  Since there was 4 stars on our flag it would make sense if we had 4 stars on our logo. I thought to add 2 flags to our logo because it reminds me of our passport logo. Then I added in the Olympic rings because every single logo that is part of the Olympics has to have the rings on it.

Run Jump Throw

BeFunky Collage.jpg

Today at our lesson for Run, Jump, Throw we learnt the positions of staring a race and what to do and what not to do. So first to get us warmed up we played a little game of Octopus. Now we revised some skills for our running. One of them was check to check, high knees, look straight ahead , standing up tall. We now went on the starting positions for running. She told us to never look at the starter because this way you will get put off by others, you will not go your fastest and you will not go in straight line.  The activities we played were mostly partner work. So first we played a game ( I was partnered up with Cecilia (Cecilia's blog ) so we were in the middle of the court we then had cones placed behind us the first one to get it would win.  I think our lesson was really fun I can't wait for our next lesson. ( Thank you Andy)

Diet of Olympians

For the first two weeks of the term we have been learning about Olympians diets. We learnt about what kind of foods they eat and what they can't eat.  We also learnt the definitions of Protien, Energy, Carbohydrates and Fat. I found this very interesting because I heard these words but never knew the actual definitions.    For this task I worked with Nazella and Zeba.

The Big Sleepout

Today in reading we red an article called " Big sleep out participants deal with night of extreme weather".  This was about Auckland community supporting homeless people. People experienced what it was like to be like them . From other reviews people said they had sore backs, not enough sleep and rough ground.  To find this information we used three sources of information we used a video an article and another article. So I learnt that I had to be more grateful because I have just realized that other people don't get what I  have right now. In the next event I would really want to participate in this.

Hoverbike advertisement

In writing our main focus is advertising. In this task we had to make our own advertisement showcasing a hover -bike.  For this task I worked with Nesi we were trying to make this stand out but we wanted the colours to be easy to read. We tried to aim for kids and  teenagers because they will be more interested in the product other than adults who won't be interested.  If this advertisement was real I would want to buy this because it is good layout and has words that will hook you in.

Recalling my timestables

Today we played a game called Quizizz this game was basically a quiz game but to recall our timestables. Our whole class had a race who would come first I came 1st and 2nd. I thought I did pretty well considering I knew all of my timetables. I thought the timetables were easy because I already knew it.  I think I would want to this again because it was challenging how fast I could get it.
